The hottest inn in Napa Valley just happens to be 100% gluten-free. The Inn on Randolph, a boutique bed & breakfast, rocketed to the number one spot on Trip Advisor in less than a year, after owner Karen Lynch bought the property in 2011 and closed it for nine months to gut it from the foundation to the roof. The result is a sophisticated and delightful property on one acre of gorgeous gardens. The property boasts five rooms in the historic Victorian inn, plus five rooms in three cottages built in the 1930s. The new kitchen has never known a speck of gluten.
Guests are greeted at the door with wine or a choice of beverages, given a tour of the expansive property and offered fruit, cheese and crackers. Napa’s historic downtown is within walking distance, including two 100% gluten-free restaurants, Pica Pica and C Casa. Guests might also enjoy a massage treatment in the inn’s spa room, or time relaxing in the outdoor spaces in the garden. Heading out for some wine tasting? Karen will send you off with a goodie bag of gluten-free crackers for the cheese pairings at wineries.
Breakfast usually includes homemade granola, yogurt and fresh fruit, in addition to a hot entree: recent entrees include a bacon wrap polenta; vanilla bean pancakes with chicken apple sausage; and a Mexican souffle with fresh guacamole and salsa. Karen originally turned to a gluten-free diet as part of anti-inflammatory treatment for Lyme disease. In addition to making everything celiac-safe, she is happy to accommodate additional dietary restrictions such as soy, dairy, corn, nuts and citrus.
The inn is also perfect for parties, weddings and retreats. Jeffrey Larsen, a food stylist and gluten-free baking instructor, occasionally offers gourmet gluten-free baking classes and retreats at the inn. Come just for the baking class or stay overnight. Stay tuned for more gluten-free special events — this inn is definitely one to watch.
